Deborah Lippmann’s biotin & green tea infused luxe lacquer contributes to a beautiful world
in more ways than one
Have you hopped aboard the glitter train this season? Because I tell you, it is going to be one long and shiny ride. Glitter is all things to nails from now through at least s/s 2011 and Deborah Lippmann is a queen of the craft. A New York manicurist turned brand creator and jazz singer (she was kind enough to autograph her cds for me and a client) she arguably has one of the prettiest packaging in the industry with the highest glitter content around.
There are soooo many fun colors (Happy Birthday, Bad Romance, et al) it is hard to focus on one. And I won’t! But for this post I’ll want to tell you about this knockout color:
Across the Universe is a dark blue based jelly polish with multi-sized glitter in blue and green, with hex glitters. It is dark and sultry and mesmerizing. Flashy and demure. The inkiness of this lends to a more versatile polish while giving it a bit of mystery. Lippmann said her goal was to create a color that captured time and space and it has been done. Not only that, but the goal is to raise money for the Discovery the Journey campaign. Deborah was whisked off as we were chatting to give a manicure to the very tired fashion blogger Tavi. Fashion TV actually came looking for her and were told she had already gone to bed (sorry, Tavs). Listen in as Deborah’s hubba-hubba husband dishes on the fundraiser:
How simple is that? Indulge yourself in this beautiful polish, take a pic of your hands or feet and upload it to the Deborah Lippmann website, and DL donates $1 for every photo submitted through the end of the year. This polish only takes two thin coats to get to opaque. Deborah Lippmann polishes run $18 and can be purchased online or at several locations, including Barneys New York. Let me know if you upload your photo for this fundraiser!

You’ve refreshed the bedbug site a thousand and one times and are reaching a mild panic because you cannot find a pest-free hotel. You want someplace with a convenient location, affordable for New York rates, and being customer service oriented would be a big plus. Sounds like you need to check-in to the Roger Smith Hotel.
I stayed here during my brief trip to New York, connected by @bsimi@rshotel (follow them on twitter). They were very helpful in getting me set up.
This boutique hotel surprised with toile. The bed was extremely comfortable. The closet held a robe.
The signs in the bathroom reminded guests to conserve water. I’m originally from drought-cursed California, was only staying two days, and have a long travel & home habit of trying to conserve water. Nevertheless, declining maid service for the two nights really panicked hotel staff. “Don’t you need towels?” they worriedly asked when they called the second day. No, I still had a full set left! A set for each day. Hm. How many towels do you go through during a stay? Or at home?
Unfortch, NYC decided to conserve water by shutting it all off on Saturday, an important day. I was thankful that the cold was running, but did you ever see the lo-flow Seinfeld episode? Yeah, I ended up with the same flat hair for a big event.
I hadn’t booked a suite, but was pleasantly upgraded upon arrival. It was so nice to have the extra room.
I don’t have shots of the dinette (blurred) or hall closet, but there was a small kitchen:
I loved that from one of my sets of windows I could gaze at the Sunday market setup, then walk outside to enjoy it.
Roger Smith Hotel is also heavily connected with social media activities and fashion events.
They had their own runway shows set up during Fashion Week.
The hotel’s location was very convenient for my activities, the rates were great, it felt safe and there were interesting events happening.
If you are used to W or maybe a Marriott, it is a little different experience here. However, if you are looking for any of the above you’ll be thrilled!
…and Roger Smith is still one of the few hotels that remains clean from bedbug infestation.
I’m seduced by style, luxury, exclusivity, and glamour, qualities that are hard to find in our disposable society ~ Tom Ford
Tom Ford’s Black Orchid Collection – (Photo in the same vein as a Ford-ish ad look, eh?)
The Tom Ford counter amped up the event with a chocolate tasting (truffles and drink). It was delicious and sexy.
Saks had a very limited pre-launch of 20 signed sets. Behold!
The set contains the first solid perfume for the Tom Ford line and it doesn’t disappoint. I love solids because scents tend to have better staying power and the concentration always smells deeper, richer. If you haven’t tried Black Orchid before, it is a Patchouli and Vanilla blend. It sounds strong, and it is. Even so, it is a scent liked from adults down to my five year old son.
Tom Ford’s Black Orchid lipstick is and wears much darker than photographed. The light pulls the raisin running through it, but on the lips it appears nearly black. Indoors, this reminds me of Chanel’s Vamp.
Last but not least, the Black Orchid nail lacquer. Thin, dries quickly. Very pretty creme.
If you like Clinique’s Black Honey line, you will love the color of Black Orchid nails & lips. In that vein, I am a little disappointed that neither feel completely new. A dusting of gold, something, would have made this a bit different. All in all, the choosen shade is beautiful, comfortable and very wearable.
Check online and in stores in coming weeks for the launch to grab your own set. Who can resist Tom Ford?
The OPI Burlesque collection will ship end of October 2010. Nail Pros must pre-order by September 25th. Grab this gorgeous collection!
OPI’s Burlesque collection for Holiday 2010 takes on the bling that is a huge nail trend for now and into 2011. Comprised of six full glitters and six metallics/shimmers, this set can easily glam up any mani/pedi in a way that isn’t glaringly ho-hum holiday. For the salon, this is my pick for the season.
