Essie Nail Polish: Fall into Fashion 2010 Collection

Want to see these swatches – on models? I used this collection for the fall fashion layout for the Milwaukee Journal-Seninel issue that comes out September 26th.  See the preview post here.

Everyone’s fav cult brand, essie, is prepping for fall with the release of six rich shades for your tips and toes.

Dubbed “Fall Into Fashion,” the rich plums and browns are meant to evoke the decadence of velvet textures and reflective metallics shown as part of Fall 2010. Can you say rich, lush and subdued? That’s exactly what founder Essie Weingarten was going for in this release.

I drew inspiration from the range of elegant, sanguine hues and camouflage tones.

I can tell you now that Little Brown Dress will be a hit in Northshore.  The Fall Collection by essie becomes available at the beginning of September 2010 (just in time for Fashion Week) online and in stores.

Make plans August 21st to watch the Iron Stylist Competition in Milwaukee. Area salons and Paul Mitchell School students will create hair styles that are trendy and true to Harley-Davidson. A requirement? The ablility to withstand a road trip.

First Place
Winning artist receives a House of Harley‐Davidson Getaway package which includes 1 night at The Iron Horse Hotel, dinner for two at La Fuente Mexican Restaurant, and two back‐stage passes to the Harley‐Davidson Museum. MAC Pulls Rodarte Line, Places Global Profits Projections to Juarez

MAC cosmetics has pulled the Rodarte line and will be donating the worldwide projected profits from the campaign to help those from the town of Juarez, Mexico.  The collection will not release.

A preview in July began a firestorm of protest against MAC for the items named after a line by designers Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte.  It was the clothing from their Fall 2010 line that translated into an inspired makeup line.  MAC translated the images from a road trip they had taken through Mexico and highlighted “Juarez” and “Factory” as cosmetic name options.  As a town with tough living/working conditions with little law enforcement, every year women and children disappear or are found dead on the roads, to and from the factories where the majority work, it was for many considered in poor taste.

MAC has a long history of partnerships and charity and it is doubtful any negative connotation was meant with this line.  Even so, it struck a raw chord with too many consumers.  MAC remains a great brand and kudos for these plans that will satisfy all parties.  Read the official statement below:

This decision will not impact M·A·C ‘s commitment to donate all of its projected profits from the collection to benefit the women and girls of Juarez.

Out of respect for the people of Mexico, the women and girls of Juarez and their families, as well as our M·A·C Mexican staff and colleagues, M·A·C has made the decision not to ship the M·A·C Rodarte limited edition makeup collection. This decision will have no impact on M·A·C’s commitment to donate all of its projected global profits from this collection to local and international groups that work to improve the lives of the women and girls of Juarez. We are currently conducting due diligence to ensure we donate to organizations with a proven record of directly supporting the women and girls of Juarez.

Fashion’s Night Out NY 2010 – Get Your Tickets Here?

It’s open season during New York’s Fashion Week.

New York is taking a page from reality and banking on massclusivity to help stimulate the economy.  This year, they’ll combine the couture allure of the invitation-only event of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York and feature a runway show for Fashion’s Night Out.  With current season designs.  Say what?  That’s right. They’ll actually show Fall/Winter clothes during the appropriate season.  And,  also? You can buy tickets to the event.

Here’s how it works:

Fashion Week New York : September 9-16, 2010

The focus is always on the next season – fall shows feature spring/summer designs, winter shows feature spring/summer designs.  Designers get x number of invitations depending on the size of the show location they have rented, and designers extend invitations to the show.  This setup allows industry insiders to prepare for what is coming ahead, adjust for production, give magazines and other publications requiring long lead times a chance to get writeup the trends for subscribers.  Attendees, made up of media, buyers and starlets, are privy to the future looks of fashion. This is not a shopping model. The event is not open to the public.

Fashion’s Night Out:  September 10, 2010    Runway:  September 7, 2010

Last year’s effort focused on getting people back into the stores.  Launched by New York Mayor Bloomberg and Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour, the very public, shopping focused event was a welcomed, city-wide embrace of retailers courting the public.

This year, it will also be used to remind people to stay in the present.  1500 tickets will be made available at $25 a piece for attendees to view the trends projected at FW last February – trends filling the stores now.  The pieces, all selected by Vogue, were pulled to represent a cross-selection of trends to inspire shoppers’ wish lists for the main event on the 10th.  This event is open to the public.

As the world increasingly turns to Target for designer collections (even before the collapse of ’08), buries couture houses and kills off magazines in lieu of instant digital information, fashion needs more events like this to gain sure footing.  In the new media culture, a little inclusion goes a long way to creating loyalty.  A runway show based on the here and now of the fantasy world of fashion?
