Grammys 2014: Queen Latifah

Want to recreate Pantene Brand Ambassador Queen Latifah’s GRAMMY Award’s coiffure?  Iasia Merriweather, her “hair-person-in-charge” shares how:

Glamming-up Queen Latifah’s fresh, new bob for the GRAMMY Awards began, as always, with a gentle shampoo followed by a moisturizing conditioner- “my GRAMMY winners, Pantene Pro-V’s Smooth and Sleek Shampoo and Conditioner – both must-haves along with frequent maintenance and deep conditioning to maintain hair’s moisture, elasticity, and promote growth.  With the Queen’s hair prepped and primed, GRAMMY make up and wardrobe choices reviewed, I set out to create what I called the ‘GRAMMY Glam-Bob!’ The result: a FLAWLESS, yet minimalistic, bob with a hint of shape-defining volume to highlight layers and add direction!”

 GET THE LOOK

1.       Prep dampen hair for blow-drying by applying Pantene Pro-V Smooth Blow-dry Crème.  Once hair is dry, apply Pantene Pro-V Smooth with Argan Oil Shine Serum and begin working from back to front, in sections, flat ironing hair straight. Once hair is straight, side part and brush to smooth.

2.       Starting at the crown of the head and working in sections, position flat iron at the base of each section and move flat iron in a semicircular or curved motion to create large loose bends in hair. Work from top to bottom and repeat process for each side of part.

3.       Gently hand comb loose curls then brush to smooth being mindful of maintaining volume and defining shape. Finish with Pantene Pro-V Stylers Anti-Humidity Maximum Hold Hairspray for a wow-worthy GLAM SLAM!

She’s Got the Look: Dianna Agron, Golden Globes

Last night was a good night for Glee’s Dianna Agron – she not only hit the Golden Globes red carpet looking smashing styled by Pantene’s celebrity hair stylist Danilo – she also took home a win in Best Television Series (Comedy or Musical).

Danilo focused on complimenting Agron’s J. Mendel dress with a half-up glamour style that would look good from all angles, look loose, but wouldn’t be something she’d have to fuss with fixing – “It was very simple, very pretty hair that was clean, contemporary Hollywood glamour.”

This is a personal style I love to wear, and Danilo shares with Solessence readers how he recommends getting this look at home:

1)      Start with freshly-washed, towel-dried hair so it’s clean for styling.
2)      Mist your hair with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Heat Protection & Shine Spray for a conditioning base, and then spray the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Root Lifter Spray Gel on your roots to prep hair for volume on top.
3)      Blow dry your hair, then use a dollop of the Pantene Pro-V Restore Beautiful Lengths Smoothing Balm to coat each section of hair before applying heat from the iron.
4)      Using a medium-to-large curling iron for the glamour set, curl hair down and under before setting to cool.
5)      Once hair has cooled in the set (10-15 minutes), release the curls and brush through to reveal voluminous waves.
6)      Lightly spread more of the Smoothing Balm through your waves as needed to clean up the slides and tame fly-aways.
7)      Part your hair to the side of your preference, smoothing hair back on each side with your fingers, and pin back with your hair pieces.
8)      Pull the remaining hair forward, shaping hair to appear full out of the hair pieces so the waves fall in front of your shoulders for a soft, elegant look.
9)      Use a finishing spray like the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Professional Level Style Shaping Hairspray on the front and sides of hair to lock in loose curls. Leave the back curls alone so they keep their flowing movement.

She’s Got the Look: Katy Perry Wins People’s Choice Awards

Danilo created a beautiful classic body set on Katy, a style that “she always loves so much.” They decided on full waves to complement her strapless Betsey Johnson dress for a “sophisticated, cutie-pie” style for the evening.

Katy Perry wowed the audience, and clearly the people, winning two People’ Choice Awards (Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Online Sensation) and major style points in a dress by Betsey Johnson and hair styled by Pantene Celebrity Stylist Danilo.

Danilo shares the steps he used on Katy Perry with Solessence readers so you can duplicate at home:

  • Katy arrived on the scene with freshly washed, towel-dried hair so Danilo had a clean base for styling.
  • He first lightly misted her hair with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Heat Protection & Shine Spray to wet and condition, then focused on prepping her roots for the voluminous style by spraying them with the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Root Lifter Spray Gel.
  •  Danilo then blew her hair out and, once dried, rubbed a small dollop of the Pantene Pro-V Restore Beautiful Lengths Smoothing Balm section-by-section before he applied heat from the curling iron.
  • He used a medium-sized curling iron to set each section and sprayed the Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Professional Level Style Shaping Hairspray over the set before letting it cool for five minutes.
  • He then released her hair, brushed it gently, and “let her hair fall very full and wavy.”
  • He parted her hair to the side with lift in the front, and left her remaining curls big and loose for the final finish.

She’s Got the Look – Katy Perry American Music Awards 2010

Blushing bride Katy Perry took the stage at the AMA show styled by Pantene Celebrity Stylish Danilo. This contemporary Hollywood look adds volume to long locks and is flattering to a number of faces. It’s also easy enough to try at home with these step-by-step instructions from Danilo:

  • Wash hair to start with a clean base.  Danilo prefers clients wash same day, and used Pantene Pro-V Fine Flat to Volume Shampoo and Conditioning to cleanse and remove buildup.
  • Before the blowdry, apply Pantene Pro-V Fine Heat Protection & Shine Spray to protect against heat.  Don’t use a heavy hand – only a fine mist is needed.
  • Section hair out and spray with Pantene Pro-V Fine Hair Root Lifter Spray Gel.  This will give you the weightless volume combined with body and shine.  Blow dry hair focusing on base to give height.
  • After hair is completely dry, use a medium curling iron and spiral curl each section.  Lightly spray with Pantene Pro-V Touchable Volume Hairspray, pin curls up and let cool.
  • Once curls are cool, remove and gently brush out so that the wave pattern is present.  “What I love about this look is that the wave is at the bottom, opposed to a retro look where the hair is curled under.”
  • Finish with Pantene Pro-V Touchable Volume Hairspray

Hair Trends: Celeb Stylist Hallie Bowman Predicts

bio-large-hallie1Hallie Bowman, Celebrity Stylist for Pantene, shares an inside look at what to expect.

“Last season, we saw a lot of conventional looks – super sleek, tamed texture, perfect twists and classic chignons. When I think spring, I think unexpected playfulness, so I’m excited that the hair trends I’m seeing are in sync with the essence of the season. Classic styles will go to the extreme or, as I like to think, depressed winter hair is finally ready to be exposed again, yet looks will still maintain a genuine romantic feel that reflects the positive mood of warmer weather.”

  • wildhairExpect to see classic looks, deconstructed. Everything from deeper, more oddly angled side parts to random messy strands off to the sides will be added to enhance those been-there-done-that styles.
  • textureMy term for a favorite trend I’m seeing – “Urban Romantic.” Hair is tightly pulled back in a pony with lots of wisps in front to frame the face. Instead of a completely sleeked-back method, adding texture can show off your personality. Crimp for attitude, wave for elegance or spiral for romance – style how you feel!
  • 42-15194400Lots of frizz will be in, frizzy curls included. Don’t bother repressing wild texture: embrace it, live it, love it. Free your frizz with intention and purpose, but don’t forget to polish your ends, try the Pantene Pro-V Smooth Serum, as you don’t want to lose total control.
  • sjp_madonna_bow_ss10Bows will be out in full force for spring, think huge 80’s-style Madonna bows. To counter an angelic sentiment bows usually portray, it’s time to be clever with your bow style. Disheveled, punky hair surrounding the bow gives a carefree, yet put-together look all at once.
  • bighairbangsBe prepared for the relapse of the thick, heavy eyelash touching bangs…it’s coming back.
  • CynthiaRowleyRW150loresThe most playful trend I’m seeing – especially with the younger crowd – touches of pastel colors in hair. Take a section of hair underneath your nape, bleach it a pastel color and, voila, it’s a hidden treasure! Ashy colors like lavender, blue and purple tones will be popular.

She’s Got the Look: Diane Kruger’s Updo

dianekruger_oscars2010Oscars 2010 was the year of editorialized hair, which meant a lot of slick backed looks with (read: frizz). Diane Krueger had one of the prettiest takes – somewhat intricate with braids and ponytails and rolls.

Danilo, Celebrity Stylist for Pantene, styled this look for Kruger and shares how you can recreate this at home:

  • Cleanse and condition hair with the Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Frizz Control Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Mist a leave-in conditioner and the Pantene Pro-V Volume Root Lifter Spray Gel all over damp hair
  • Blow dry hair upside down to create a voluminous base for styling
  • Section hair into a side part, divide into three sections (sides and back)
  • Braid side sections of hair back away from the face in an upward direction creating tightness on the sides
  • Pull the back section of hair into a high ponytail leaving volume on top
  • Split ponytail into two sections and twist in a rope-like formation, incorporating side braids into two back twists
  • Continually twist hair while pinning it into place as the twist braid is knotted up around itself
  • Mist hair with the Pantene Pro-V Texture Hairspray to lock style in place
  • Finish the look with a pretty broche to dress up the look.  Diane wore a Chanel Camelia Nervure brooch to compliment her Chanel gown.
